CBM calculator for ocean freight
CBM (cubic metre) is the unit used for LCL pricing. One carton of 60×40×40 cm is 0.096 CBM; the sum of all cartons gives the LCL volume, and LCL is charged on the greater of volume or weight.
Carton → CBM
CBM = length(m) × width(m) × height(m) × quantity. Example: 0.6 × 0.4 × 0.4 × 120 = 11.5 CBM.
LCL chargeable volume
| Measure | Value |
|---|---|
| Cargo volume | 11.5 CBM |
| Cargo weight | 2,300 kg → 2.3 RT |
| Chargeable (greater of CBM or weight ton) | 11.5 RT |
When to switch to FCL
Below about 15 CBM LCL is normally cheaper; above 15 CBM, and for light bulky cargo, a 40HQ or 40GP is usually cheaper per unit. Compare both in the rate search.
