Chargeable weight for LCL and air freight
Chargeable weight decides what you actually pay for. LCL uses revenue tons (RT); air uses volumetric weight at 1:167.
LCL: revenue ton (RT)
RT = max(CBM, metric tonnes). 8 CBM at 5,000 kg → max(8, 5) = 8 RT.
Air: volumetric weight
Volumetric kg = CBM × 167. 1.2 CBM at 150 kg → max(150, 200) = 200 kg chargeable.
Why it matters for China exports
Light bulky cargo (textiles, furniture, packaging) is usually charged on volume, so packing density directly changes your cost per unit. Dense cargo (hardware, machinery) is charged on weight.
