ETD, ETA and cut-off: the three dates that matter
ETD is when the vessel sails, ETA when it arrives, and cut-off is the deadline for cargo to be at the terminal. Missing cut-off means rolling to the next sailing.
| Term | Meaning | Who controls it |
|---|---|---|
| ETD | Estimated time of departure | Carrier |
| ETA | Estimated time of arrival | Carrier |
| Cut-off | Latest cargo delivery / documentation deadline | Terminal + carrier |
| Valid until | How long a quoted rate holds | Forwarder |
Cut-off is usually 2–4 days before ETD for FCL, earlier for LCL consolidations.
