LCL or FCL: how to choose
LCL pays only for the space you use; FCL buys the whole box. The crossover is usually around 15 CBM, but dense cargo can flip it earlier.
| Scenario | Better option | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Under ~15 CBM | LCL | You only pay for your volume |
| 15–25 CBM, light cargo | Compare both | LCL minimum + destination fees add up |
| Over ~25 CBM | FCL (40HQ) | Lower cost per CBM, less handling |
| High-value or fragile | FCL | No co-loading, less handling damage |
| Urgent small shipment | LCL or air | More frequent sailings |
LCL is charged on the greater of CBM and weight ton, plus destination CFS fees — always compare the landed total, not just the ocean rate.
